How to check the settings of Tesco Internet Security

  1. Open Tesco Internet Security. In order to do that, follow the steps below:
    • Click on the Windows Start button
    • Select Programs
    • Click on Tesco Internet Security
    • Select Open Tesco Internet Security
  2. Expand Updates and subscription
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Select the Enable automatic updates checkbox within the Automatic updates option.
  5. Check that your user name and password are correct by clicking on Check data. Remember that you must enter them exactly as you received them from Tesco Software, respecting any capital letters and without leaving blank spaces.

If you haven't registered, you must visit the registration area.

If you don't remember your number, access the User name/password reminder site.
  6. Check that the location from where you want the update to be carried out is correct. In order to do that, from Update location, select Internet, if you are updating using an Internet connection, or Floppy disk, CD ROM or local network, if you are updating using any of these means.
  7. If you access the Internet via a proxy server in a computer network, select Proxy settings. Then, enable the Access via a proxy server checkbox and enter the corresponding Ip address and Port . If your computer or computers are not connected to a network, the Access via a proxy server checkbox must be disabled.
  8. It is also possible that you are not connected to the Internet long enough for Tesco Internet Security to be able to carry out the automatic update. To solve this, open a connection to the Internet manually and use the option Update.
  9. Check that the Internet Explorer settings do not interfere with the process. To do this:
  10. Open the browser, click on Tools and select Internet Options.
  11. Click on the Security tab and click on the Custom Level button under Internet.
  12. In User Authentication, Logon, check that the Automatic logon only in Intranet zone or Prompt for user name and password checkbox is enabled.

17. I have Tesco Internet Security installed and when I access my computer from another machine through Windows XP Remote Desktop, it blocks. What should I do?

In Windows XP computers with the Tesco Internet Security firewall activated, when trying to access it from another computer using the Windows XP application Remote Desktop Connection, the connection blocks and it cannot be accessed.
This happens because the port used for this type of connection is not defined in the list of programs with access to the Internet and other networks. For this reason, when the Tesco Internet Security firewall protection detects a connection attempt, it automatically blocks it.
To prevent this from happening and to allow the Remote Desktop connection to be established with the computer with Tesco Internet Security installed, you need to configure the firewall incorporated in this security solution.

Steps for configuring the firewall protection

  1. Open Tesco Internet Security through Start, Programs, Open Tesco Internet Security.
  2. From the main Status window, expand Security protection and click on Settings
  3. Click on the Firewall icon in the panel on the left
  4. Select Settings in Programs with access to the Internet or other networks.
  5. Clear the Automatically assign communication permissions checkbox.
  6. Select the Show operating system programs checkbox at the bottom of the window under the list of programs with access to the network.
  7. Select Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services from the list of programs and click on Advanced settings... at the bottom of the window.
  8. In the Connect from other computers (server) section, select the Allow (act as a server) checkbox.
  9. Then double-click on the dropdown menu in the TCP section and enter 3389 (port that allows communication via the Remote Desktop application).
  10. Click OK until you reach the main program menu.
  11. After completing these steps, the connection from another computer using Windows XP Remote Desktop will be established correctly.

18. During the update process, the following message appears: "Application error 190.0xx", what does it mean and how can I resolve it?

Under certain circumstances, the Virus Signature Update File process is interrupted and the following message is displayed: "Application error 190xxx"; where the first three numeric values can vary.
This error specifies that the file download could not be completed correctly and therefore, the file is unusable, or the file has not been correctly reconstructed in the computer. In either case, the security solution will check the integrity and size of the file and if it detects any inconsistencies, it will return the error described above, interrupting the file update process.

The Solution
Follow the steps to manually download the signature file as outlined in FAQ 6

19. Windows Update specifies that my operating system is up-to-date but Tesco Internet Security detects vulnerabilities. What should I do?

When carrying out an on-demand scan for vulnerabilities, from Scan, Detect vulnerabilities or after the Virus Signature File has been updated (during the memory scan), Tesco Internet Security can sometimes detect the vulnerabilities MS04-011 and MS05-041 in computers running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 installed.

Then, when the operating system is updated (Windows Update), a critical update pending installation is not detected. This happens because Microsoft has not included the patches for the MS04-011 and MS05-041 vulnerabilities in Windows Update.
In order to resolve this conflict, access the corresponding Microsoft security bulletins from the link for the vulnerability you need to fix, download the update and then install it.

  1. To resolve the MS04-011 vulnerability, visit this link.
  2. To resolve the MS05-041 vulnerability, visit this link.

20. When Tesco Internet Security updates, I get "Unknown error 12029" . How can I resolve this?

In some cases, after updating the program, "Unknown error 12029" is returned. This occurs because the upgrader.exe process does not have inbound connection permissions in the Tesco Internet Security firewall, and therefore access is denied. To resolve this error, all you need to do is allow inbound and outbound connections.

Instructions

  1. In the Status screen, open the Security protection menu.
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Select the option Firewall from the panel on the left.
  4. In the Programs with access to the network/Internet section, click on Settings
  5. Clear the Automatically assign communication permissions checkbox.
  6. Find the Updates and upgrades for Tesco Internet Security program and in the Connections allowed section, select Inbound and outbound or Outbound (client).
  7. Once you have made these changes to the permissions, reactivate the Automatically assign communication permissions checkbox
  8. Click on Close to apply the changes.
  9. Click on OK in all windows to save the changes.
  10. Now update the program.
For more detailed instructions on how to configure Tesco Internet Security to update automatically, see FAQ 14 - How can I make Tesco Internet Security update automatically?

Once you have done this, message 12029 will not reappear.

21. When I try to scan my computer in safe mode with Tesco Internet Security, the scan does not function correctly. What should I do?

When a computer is restarted in safe mode, the operating system only loads minimum controllers. In this way, users can access the system, but bear in mind that certain functions and programs may not operate with their full functionality.
To prevent this occurring with Tesco Internet Security, we have developed hotfix hfp100605s1.exe.

  1. Instructions for applying the hotfix
  2. Download hotfix hfp100605s1.exe, by clicking here:
  3. Save the file to your hard disk; to the Windows Desktop, for example.
  4. Close the Tesco Internet Security permanent protection, by clicking on the "L" icon by the Systray, next to the Windows clock.
  5. Run the downloaded file. You can do this by double-clicking on the hfp100605s1.exe file in order to apply the hotfix.
  6. Restart the computer to apply the changes.
Once you have follow these instructions, you will see that you can correctly scan your system using safe mode.

22. Since I installed Tesco Internet Security, certain web pages do not load correctly. How can I resolve it?

In some cases, if the security solution Tesco Internet Security is installed, certain web pages cannot be accessed or only part of the content of these pages is displayed.
The cause of this conflict is the HTTP protection, which scans HTTP traffic before the pages are displayed in your browser.
In order to resolve this incident, we have developed the hotfix hfp100606s11.exe. Follow the steps below to apply the hotfix:

Steps to follow

  • Download hotfix hfp100606s11.exe by clicking here:
  • Save the file to your hard disk; to the Windows Desktop, for example.

    6. Restart the computer to apply the changes.
    7. After completing these steps, you will be able to send email messages satisfactorily. Also, should it be necessary, check whether you have access to the shared resorces in the network.

    24. Since installing Tesco Internet Security, errors in the protection against known threats appear and the webproxy.exe process fails. How can I solve this?

Sometimes the Tesco Internet Security status displays errors both in the protection against known threats and in the protection against fraud. For this reason, the main menu of the security solution will advise you to check both protections. However, the protection status will appear to be correct.
This is due to a random error in the email protection and web proxy protection process, which terminates unexpectedly without displaying any error on the screen.

In order to resolve this incident, we have developed the hotfix hfp100606s5.exe.

    Steps for applying the hotfix

    1. Download hotfix hfp100606s5.exe by clicking here.
    2. Save the file to your hard disk; to the Windows Desktop, for example.
