1. What are the hardware/operating system requirements?

  • Tesco Complete Office is designed for, and works best on, Windows XP
  • It will also work on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
  • A typical installation of Tesco Complete Office takes around 60MB of hard disk space
  • RAM and Processor speed - there are no minimum requirements providing Windows itself will run. However, we would not recommend running Windows XP with less than 128MB RAM and a 500MHz processor, and so this is our "minimum recommend specification". Almost any PC less than a year old will easily exceed these requirements.

2. How do I re-install?

You should re-install from the CD-ROM.

3. Error 1311 Source File not found.

If installing from CD, usually means there is a defect on the CD-ROM.

4. Error 1606 Could not access network location.

Can occur when Windows XP has been installed as an upgrade to Windows 98/ME. This is a Microsoft Windows problem and may affect all programs installed using Microsoft Windows Installer. For a fix, please see the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b315352

5. How do I put a Tesco Complete Office icon onto the desktop

You can use a standard Windows technique, drag and drop, to put Tesco Complete Office icons onto the desktop. The following instructions are for Windows XP but should work with earlier versions of Windows as well.

  1. Get the Desktop visible (e.g. minimize all applications or use the "Show Desktop" button on the Windows taskbar)
  2. Select Start
  3. Select All Programs/Tesco Complete Office
  4. Press the Ctrl Key and keep it pressed
  5. Drag and drop a program (say Write) onto the desktop
  6. Release the Ctrl Key
To remove an icon you have placed on the desktop, right-click over it and select Delete.

6. Write Freeze/Unable to register document.

Symptom 1 : error message on install: "Tesco Complete Office, clipboard 270296 unable to register document. document may be already open"

Symptom 2: Write and Spreadsheet get as far as displaying splash screen before freezing.

Cause: some Windows services have been turned off.

Solution: Whatever it was that was turned off needs to be turned back on! At time of writing, we do not know the service(s) involved. Note that the same problem exists in Microsoft Word.

7. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library error when installing Photoalbum.

Symptom 1 : error message on install: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library error: C:\Program Files\Tesco Complete Office 4\ABPhoto.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more information."

Symptom 2: Cannot start Tesco Complete Office Photoalbum or use open a table with Tesco Complete Office Database.

Cause: DAO, part of Windows XP, is not set up correctly.

Solution:

  1. Select Start/Run
  2. Enter: REGSVR32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO360.DLL"
  3. More info: see Microsoft knowledge base - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q296205/

8. Setup prompts for DAO.MSI on Windows XP

Cause: DAO, part of Windows XP that deals with databases, is not set up correctly. One known instance is an ATI installation of DAO (DAO should not be installed on XP by any application since it is already part of XP).

Solution: In Control Panel, Select Add/Remove programs and check for DAO (ATI ver. 3.5). If found, remove it. Note that the ATI installation of DAO has been know to cause other programs to fail and not just Tesco Complete Office.

9. abolepages.dll fails to register

Cause: The correct version of MFC, short for Microsoft Foundation Class, a Microsoft developer technoloy, is not installed. This can happen with a clean install of Windows 2000 (even with SP4 applied) and also earlier versions of Windows (95/98/ME).

Solution CD Install:

  • Select Start/Run
  • Browse to the utils98 folder on the Tesco Complete Office CD-ROM
  • Run MFCSetup.MSI

10. Manually installing a patch

Sometimes Windows loses the association between Microsoft Windows Patch files (.MSP) and Windows Installer. This could happen if another application takes over this association. In such circumstances, the patch file cannot be started directly and you will need to apply the patch manually as follows:

  1. Download the patch file to your local hard drive. It&39;s probably a good idea to create a local folder to hold the download - for example c:\download
  2. When the download is complete, select Start/Run and enter:
    MSIEXEC /P c:\[pathtopatch]\nameofpatch.MSP

11. Installing on Windows 98

If install fails to complete under Windows 98, the most likely scenario is that some Microsoft system files are either not installed or need updating.

Installing Tesco Complete Office from CD-ROM
Select Start/Run and enter D:\README.HTM
Steps 4, 5 and 6 are required on a PC that has a fresh copy of Windows 98 installed and has no other software updates.

12. Cannot uninstall/re-install - error message asking for a patch

Problem: On uninstall, or re-install or attempt to apply a patch, the following error message is displayed:

"This Patch Package could not be opened. Verify that the Patch Package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer."

Cause: Windows Installer, a Microsoft technology, keeps a track of what software has been installed in the registry. This information has been corrupted.

Solution:

First attempt to uninstall Tesco Complete Office 4 using Start/Control Panel. Next, see the following Microsoft FAQ and run the utility it suggests:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;295823&spid=2488&sid=307

After running the utility, you will be offered a choice of programs. Select Tesco Complete Office 4 and click Remove.
